Laxman and Sharma were there to save their team as India required 92 runs with two wickets and Laxman forgot his backache and went onto play a great inning, he also helped the tail ender to build his inning. Sharma got out when India required 11 runs but Laxman was too close to win and he slapped a victory on those who were thinking that India fixed the match.

India won the first match of Border Gavaskar trophy and proved to be the best team.
